0910h12 - Legion Condor panzer beret. This rare offering is made without a crash helmet liner. This beret features nickel silver insignia consisting of a panzer skull and swastika. 0911h1 - Army panzer enlisted M42 cap. This rare panzer cap features machine sewn gray "T" insignia combining the Wehrmacht eagle and cockade. The machine stitch along the top edge of the eagle has separated by about 1 ½ inches. This does not detract from the overall appearance. The two side scallops are joined at the front with two black pebbled aluminum buttons. Most of these short-lived caps were converted to M43's by the addition of a visor. It is a period dyed wool that could be either penal (un-dyed wool) or jager green. There is no "bleeding" evident that would indicate the waffenfarbe was post-war altered. The ribbed tricot wool body is in excellent condition. The condition of the aluminum eagle and kokarde match the condition of the hat's body, enlisted patent leather chinstrap and capband. 099h9 - Army troppenhelm (canvas pith helmet) with 2 pairs of flexible sun goggles. This tan sun helmet features six panel cotton canvas construction. The canvas is in near mint condition having minimal storage age and wear. The tan leather trim that runs the circumference of the helmet is immaculate and complete as is the leather chinstrap. This sun helmet was originally Luftwaffe. There is an additional hole on each side of the eagle shield indicating the attachment of a wider insignia shield. 037H21 - Early Heer Gebirgjager officer's visor field hat. This hat is a very rare and wonderful piece. Gebirgjager officers were not authorized to wear silver piping on their hats until October '42. So what many self respecting officer's did was they added their own. This hat features thin twist cord piping that was fined stitched around the crown. The two silver buttons were also added to make this a "treue" officer's hat. The hat insignia is the early, rare white "T" and the side Edelweiss. The distinctive Edelweiss was worn only by the mountain troops and is sewn onto the side panel with field gray matching thread. The interior of this hat is the standard medium gray cotton with a full leather sweatband. The lining is marked 54 and M37. After December 1940 the wear of colored waffenfarbe was ordered discontinued by Heinrich Himmler. The hat is constructed of gray doeskin upper body with infantry white piping. The "low-rise" crown is evident of early construction probably in the the 1938 - 1939 period. These hats are seen being worn primarily in the pre-war and early war years. 086h9 - Dutch SS enlisted visor hat with "Wolfsangle" insignia. The Dutch SS was stockpiling Allgemeine SS uniforms in 1940 about the same time as the German SS stopped wearing theirs. It is speculated that after the German Allgemeine stopped wearing their black service uniforms they were shipped to countries such as Holland and Norway for their fledgling SS units to wear. This hat features the Wolfsangle worn by the Dutch SS units with their service uniforms.The hat's body has been tacked-down at the sides to give the hat a more "rakish" appearance. The upper body has no mothing, exterior tears or stains. There is one area along the white crown piping at the front peak that shows wear. The interior shows heavy use. This cap is made of a heavy wool'rayon blend not unlike the material used for the uniforms. This cap features a machine sewn front trapezoid with the eagle and totenkopf combination. On the underside of the side earflaps is the length of rayon cloth used to pass through either end of the cap's ear flaps when pulled down for warmth. I first heard of this piece several years ago when I learned that this was sold to an advanced collector approximately 25 years ago after turning up at a show in Greenbelt, Maryland when a person walked in with it along with a sturmartillery beret. This until now unobtainable beret was worn by the Regiment General Goring armored units from 1938 through early 1940. This extremely rear offering was worn by the "Milice Francaise" otherwise known as the Vichy French militia created in January 1943 for the purpose of combating anti-German resistence, summary executions and rounding up the Jewish population for deportation. Following the collapse of German occupied France, members of the Milice were pressed into service with the Waffen SS Division Charlemagne. Following the war, members of the Milice who did not escape France were vigorously prosecuted for the crimes against the French people. This extremely rare visor hat was worn by officials of the Ostminiserium (RMBO) or Third Reich government officials responsible for overseeing the occupation of the "Eastern" (Soviet) occupied territories. This is one of the rarest hats Oakleaf has ever offered. Directed by Reichsminister Alfred Rosenberg, the Reichsministerium fur die besetzten Ostgebiete -RMBO, wore uniforms distinct from the Foreign Ministry. This hat features a distinctive gold wash metal eagle and wreathed kokarde. The kokarde is separate of the wreath. The hat has a high peak and great saddle shape. 0810H8 - Schutzpolizei bergmutze for enlisted ranks. I love this cap. This polizei M43 features handsewn police hexagon insignia. The upper body has had a period repair on the right-facing side towards the rear caused by it having been exposed to flame. This repair was machine - stitched. Along the lower edge of the upper body were the visor is attached is a strip of fabric that I cannot account for. But it's undoubtedly period manufactured that way. On the right-facing side is a metal edelweiss. The interior shows a period added, machine-sewn oilcloth sweatband. That shows honest wear. The cap is lined in field gray cotton and is padded in the front to give it additional support and shape. The maker's stamp E.J. Trimborn… is present along with a size stamped 53 ½. These hats were worn by officials charged with running the schools responsible for selecting youths chosen to become the future party leaders. The NAPOLA system was not a standard school system. Youths were especially selected by local party leaders for this honor. This beautiful hat features one of the most stunning political eagles and cockade sets I've ever seen. 054H11 - NSKK NCO overseas cap. This is a very nice and complete piece with the owner's name. The region is Hochland as evidenced by the copper brown NSKK side eagle. The twin tresses running down the left side panel indicate an NCO The two front NSKK buttons feature the small party eagle superimposed over a steering wheel as the NSKK trained drivers for the W ehrmacht and government branches. The side panels are neatly stitched down at the peaks to give the cap shape. The black wool is of high quality.The interior of the cap is lined black cotton. There is a brown RZM tag and the owner's name tag signifying that he was a RAD Arbeitsmann. An excellent example. $525. More Photos |

052H2 - NSKK enlisted overseas cap for the Sudwest district. This cap is constructed of high quality black wool and cut in the NSKK style with deep-cut side scallops that attach to the air-grommets by means of tiny hooks. The two aluminum front buttons feature the party eagle superimposed over a steering wheel. The NSKK was created to train qualified drivers for the Wehrmacht. The silver NSKK eagle is on a golden-yellow background indicating the wearer's district as Sudwest. This is a heavy constructed cap. There are two tiny holes on the eagle side that indicate that a badge was attached at one time. These holes are barely noticeable. The interior features high quality black cotton lining. There is no RZM tag. The two side air grommets appear to be brass that would indicate this as a pre-war made hat as brass was in short supply after the outbreak of war. 052H1 - NSKK enlisted overseas cap for Neiderscheim or Ostmark districts. With the build-up of the German Wehrmacht in the mid-1930's, it became apparent that there was an acute shortage of qualified drivers. The NSKK was created to fill this need. This cap is constructed of high quality black wool that is cut in the NSKK style with deep scalloped side panels that are stitched to the cap body. The two, aluminum front buttons are purely decorative featuring a party eagle superimposed over a steering wheel. The silver NSKK triangular eagle is black -backed indicating the wearer was from either the Niederscheim or Ostmark districts. The interior features black cotton lining and a brown, machine-sewn RZM tag. The tag indicates the hat is size 58. Mint example. $400. More Photos |
